Martin L. Shallon, CPA

Since starting the firm in 1979, Marty has been providing quality, personalized financial services to individuals and small businesses.

For his tax return clients, Marty prepares income tax returns for individuals, trusts, corporations and partnerships. This includes returns for Federal, all states and most cities that have reporting requirements. Marty tries to incorporate income tax planning, estate planning, retirement planning and other types of financial planning into all of his engagements thereby providing more value to his clients than merely preparing tax returns. Marty also specializes in the preparation of estate tax returns.

For his business clients, Marty provides a wide range of services depending on the needs of his clients. These services range from basic services such as bookkeeping, payroll preparation and bill paying to more complex services such as financial statement preparation and consulting. The types of business clients span a wide range including service companies, restaurants, retail stores and manufacturing companies. There is an emphasis on service companies which include physicians, dentists, lawyers, engineers, security traders and other professionals.

Marty received his BA degree in Mathematics from University of California, Los Angeles in 1974 and was certified by the California State Board of Accountancy in 1977. From 1974 to 1979, prior to establishing his practice, Marty worked for a local CPA firm in Los Angeles, California. Marty's professional activities include membership in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce.

Betty Dunn, EA

Betty is an enrolled agent with the Internal Revenue Service and assists in the preparation of both individual and business income tax returns.

Betty is the firm's full charge bookkeeper. She provides accounting and bookkeeping services for the firm's business clients and has experience with many accounting software packages. Betty meets the accounting and bookkeeping needs of our clients by providing a range of services. These services start with basic functions such as the preparation of cash receipt journals, preparation of cash disbursement journals and reconciliation of bank accounts. The services progress to more advanced functions such as maintaining the general ledger, year-end adjusting journal entries and the preparation of financial statements. In the compliance area the preparation of payroll tax returns, sales tax returns, 1099 forms, property tax affidavits and business license renewals are among the many forms Betty prepares.

Betty is also responsible for the supervision of the other employees of the firm.

Betty has been with the firm since 1983. Betty received her AA degree in Accounting from El Camino College in 1977 and became an enrolled agent in 1996.

Esperanza Arato, CPA

Esperanza joined the firm in January 2017 to assist in the preparation of income tax returns for individuals, trusts, corporations and partnerships, as well as in providing accounting and financial reporting services to business clients.

Esperanza’s professional experience ranges from tax return preparation to corporate accounting and financial statement audits. In addition to working in her current role, she has been an audit manager for a local CPA firm, CFO for a non-profit healthcare company, and Controller for an insurance brokerage company after working for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP as a senior audit associate. Esperanza began her career as an audit associate for SGV & Co. in the Phillipines.

Esperanza received her BS degree in Accounting from the University of the East (Philippines) in 1993 and received her Philippine CPA license in 1994. She worked in the Philippines from 1994 until she relocated to Chicago, Illinois in 2003 where she obtained her Illinois CPA license in 2005. She obtained her California CPA license in 2007 after moving to Los Angeles. Esperanza’s professional activities include membership of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, PASCPA, NCPACA, ISSFA where she served as executive vice-president.

Shelly Hernandez

Shelly is Marty's administrative assistant and is usually the first person you see when you visit our office. As administrative assistant she performs a variety of duties which include scheduling appointments, printing and assembling of income tax returns, and maintaining our offices paperless system.

Shelly is also in charge of our business/personal management department which pays bills and prepares payroll checks for those clients needing this service.

Shelly has been with the firm since 1998.
